Here's a quick summary of the role of the Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame. Please refer to SSHOF Website for definitive information.

Managed by the Rotary Club of Port Elgin since 2013, originally founded in 1999.
  • Run by a Selection Committee of 5-9 members total:
  • 1-4 Rotary members (from Port Elgin or Southampton clubs)
  •  2-5 community members (must be Saugeen Shores residents)
  • Committee has leadership roles: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary-Treasurer, and Directors at Large
Event Format:
  • Held every two years (biennial)
  • Takes place first Thursday in May in odd-numbered years
  • Ceremony includes dinner and silent auction at the Plex in Port Elgin
  • Consistently sells out, showing strong community support
Nomination & Selection Process:
  • Typically inducts around 4 people per ceremony
  • Categories include Athletes, Builders, and Teams
  • Athletes must be retired 5+ years from their nominated activity
  • Builders (coaches, officials, organizers, etc.) can be currently active
  • Nominations remain valid for 5 years
  • Final selection requires 75% committee approval
Automatic Induction for:
  • Olympic medalists from Saugeen Shores
  • Top 3 finishers in recognized International Championships
  • Canadian Champions in non-team disciplines
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must have significant connection to Saugeen Shores through:
  • Being born and raised there, or
  • Minimum 5-year residence
  • Can recognize both local and higher-level achievements
  • Achievements must be documented and sustained over time
Financial Structure:
  • Rotary Club of Port Elgin maintains fiscal control
  • It is not designed to be a major fundraiser but any profits support Rotary Club youth projects
  • Committee has autonomy over induction proceedings while being fiscally responsible to Rotary
  • The program demonstrates a well-structured balance between recognizing sporting achievement, community contribution, and maintaining prestigious standards while celebrating local accomplishments.
